You can do it

If I can do it, so can you.

Whether you have writer's block or are ploughing your way through 1,000's of words per day, you are exactly where you need to be. Why am I so sure? Well, I struggled for many days with writing my book. I wanted to be swept up and taken care of by an agent for once in my life. That is not how life has ever unfolded for me, and the challenges that I had to overcome were not given to me to cause me to fail; they were put before me to challenge my resolve, resilience and creative solutions.

The process from writer to writer has overlaps, but the words are coming from your core. They will come out in drips and torrents. Some days you will be on fire, and other days you will be barren.

It may be easier for me because I am writing about everyday life topics, and if I had to keep track of multiple characters and deep plots, I might be pulling my hair out or dismantling my keyboard. Actually, don't do the latter.

The discomfort of 'not knowing is a knowing', and it is always beneficial to step away and journal about what is not happening in the way you hoped. Be honest and leave it all there on the page. What expectation do you have of yourself, and how is that suffocating you?  Then look up and ask yourself, 'Where is my reader hoping to go next, who will they speak with, and what might they say or do? That reader may want to experience more freedom and explore a completely different environment. They might need permission. Permission for what? What is left unsaid or unaccomplished for them? Where do they feel stuck, and what might propel them forward more creatively? How does their role change? What is their greater dilemma? A reader reads your book because they want a new experience, but also because they want to be heard. They want to be in your book.

For me, it is the story of self-acceptance and allowing. Letting go of self-sabotage and remaining open to the deep connection that is available to us all. How do we connect more deeply with our writing? We connect more deeply with ourselves and the world around us. The truth emerges from that place. Fiction and Non-fiction become more seamless as you embody your character's story and present it fully to the world. We start to get excited that there is life in the room now, and we have created it. No holding back. No half-truths. No fear, just an unfolding.
